This project was for the Orr Street Gardens, RMIT Carlton campus and represents personal growth, travel and the nomadic nature of a person’s lifetime. It is said that ” home is where the heart is”, however for most young adults, particularly students, home is a transient one. Many of them don’t have a fixed abode, instead they move from one rental property to another.
This sense of belonging is no longer associated with place, it is instead, associated with the items that one chooses to travel with and that Australian dream of “owning your own home” (a permanent place to settle and grow into) is implanted on those objects. Consequently these objects depict our roots, emotions or personal growth and “home is where the suitcase is”.
